Rolling over

Friday Apr 11, 2003

Five months old and growing like crazy. She’s at least 16 pounds (according to the bathroom scale), I haven’t measured her length yet, but I’d guess close to 27″ or so. She’s finally learned to roll over. YAY! She doesn’t do it too often, but she definitely knows how to do it. I think her increased mobility has helped her to get more comfortable at night as well. She’s able to get herself comfortable if she needs to instead of waking up to complain. She isn’t sleeping through the night, but she doesn’t wake up after 45 minutes either. We put her down around 11pm every night – awake, and she falls asleep and goes till around 2am (which would be the next feeding on her 4 hour schedule) then she sleeps again till 6, eats, and again till 10am. I really need to figure out how to get her to skip the 2am feeding. I’m not sure how to do it, except maybe offer formula or water at that time instead of breastmilk. Usually I’m so tired I just feed her and go back to bed, since it only takes around 20 minutes anyway.

Five Months

Tuesday Mar 25, 2003

Almost 5 months old now (thursday is 20 weeks, April 7th if we go by months, so you pick) She’s getting to be such a happy baby. We’ve even discovered how to put her to bed at night without a fight. We rock her till she’s really sleepy, then put her in bed awake. She sees us leave and goes to sleep.
Lately (last two nights) she’s been sleeping till around 4am then waking up to eat and sleeping again until 10am. What a good girl! Mommy doesn’t know what to do with all the sleep she’s getting 🙂 Sophia is eating cereal really well now too, as long as its mixed with breastmilk. So we’re not sure what we’re gonna do if mommy wants to stop breastfeeding before a year. We might have to search for a yummier formula until she’s ready to take cow’s milk (which isn’t until 1 year old). I think we’ll start her on a veggie in a couple of weeks.

Four Month Doctor visit

Monday Mar 3, 2003

Four month doctor visit today. I’m a growing girl in the 75% range for everything, check out my stats. Doc says we can start some cereal too, yay! I’m mostly sleeping through the night, with one feeding, although sometimes I’m awake twice just to make mommy sleepy. Mommy and Daddy have started to not respond to my every whimper, and I’m learning that I need to just sleep sometimes. Every day is better and better, I’m happier and happier every day. I play all the time with my toys and I’m really really close to rolling over without help. Mommy thinks it’s time for an exersaucer, but she can’t decide which one to get.

Grandparent visit

Monday Feb 24, 2003

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit all weekend and got to see lots of Sophie. Daddy cooked dinner and we all hung out and watched some movies, did a little shopping and went to church on Sunday. The proud grandparents showed her off too all their old friends at church. It was nice. Mommy also put Sophie in the nursery for the last 1/2 hour of the sermon, which helped to ease mommy into leaving Sophie with strangers/babysitters in the future. She was perfectly good and just smiled at the nursery workers while she swang. It’s funny how natural it feels to go back to church after so long. We’ll probably be going more often now, as we want to raise her right.
She also decided to start sleeping through the night again this weekend. Friday night was awful, up at 2am, 4am, 7am, 8:15am and stayed up till noon. Then Saturday and again Sunday night she slept all the way through, mommy doesn’t know if its the little bit of formula helping to keep her tummy full or if she’s just trying to get her beauty sleep again. Whatever the reason, mommy and daddy are thankful for the uninterrupted sleep.

Happy New Year

Tuesday Jan 14, 2003

Happy New Year! went back to work on the 2nd and things are going pretty well. She’s really starting to figure out this schedule thing. She’s even sleeping from around 11pm to 5am, which is great for me! She’s up at around 10 to eat again (we’re on a 4 hour schedule now) and then usually down for a nap around 11:30 or noon and she sleeps until 2pm which is her next feeding. She plays with mommy for awhile after each feeding and then plays with some toys on her butterfly play mat for a little longer. After that she either sits with mommy for a bit or goes down for another nap. She’s seeing everything now so i’m glad we got her that play mat, since her swing doesn’t have any mobile on it and it tends to put her to sleep. She does like watching football from her swing though, so we’ve sat her facing the TV a few times – whatever keeps her from yelling 🙂 She’s close to finding her thumb and maybe close to rolling over too. I also can’t wait till she figures out things that are funny and starts to giggle. She weighs 11 pounds 4 ounces now and is 23.75 inches long, she’s a growing girl ! She’s making great noises and chattering now, its really great.

Back to work?

Monday Dec 30, 2002

Well, I have to go back to work on Thursday..yikes! I’d say that at almost 8 weeks old, things are going pretty well. We’re just now starting to work out a routine of eating, being awake, and sleeping – in that order. Sometimes Sophia doesn’t like to abide by the routine, but we’re working on that. We’re on a 3.5 hour feeding schedule, with adjustments if she gets really hungry sooner. After eating, she’s awake for about an hour or two and then drops off to sleep until the next feeding. This should allow me to work pretty normal hours during the day, although I’ll probably have to work a couple hours after 5 to make sure I’m doing my job right. I really want this situation to work out, and today went pretty well as a practice. We’ll see if she can stick to this schedule tomorrow and wednesday. It seems that sometimes visitors throw her off a bit, so we’ll have to stick to visiting on weekends.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were fun, especially christmas when everyone brought presents for Sophia. Even I couldn’t resist buying her a few new outfits from Target. She’s into the 3month size now, even though she’s just 2 months old this week. Target seems to be off a bit on their sizes, but she’s wearing other 3month clothes too, so she’s probably just ahead of the growth curve a bit. Her doctor appointment is on Friday, so we’ll see what she’s gained and how long she’s grown. She’s at least 10 pounds, probably closer to 11 and I know she’s grown at least 2 inches. I measured her at 22.5″ a few weeks ago. She’s getting so big already, hard to believe.
